Speaker's Night |
The WBWBA hosts an annual Dessert, Coffee and Speaker's night, featuring prominent business speakers, and is open to the general public. |
Successfully Speaking |
Our latest speaker's night, called "Successfully Speaking" featuring Janet Matthews, took place on April 13th at Wasaga Sands. |
Janet Matthews is a writer, editor, professional speaker, workshop facilitator, and co-author of the Canadian Best seller, Chicken Soup for the Canadian Soul. Janet first became involved with the Chicken Soup Brand in 1997 when she produced and edited stories for another title. When Jack Canfield invited her and fellow Canadian Raymond Aaron to Co-author Chicken Soup for the Canadian Soul, she jumped at the opportunity to help create this unique Canadian book. Four years and 6,000 stories later, the book was released and became an immediate best seller. She has stories published now in 6 different Chicken Soup for the Soul books, and has contributed stories to several other books. Janet is also a certified Heal Your Life, Achieve Your Dreams workshop leader, with training based on the philosophy of the legendary Louise Hay. Janet has been a guest on countless television and radio talk shows across Canada, and has been welcomed as a speaker by groups like this one wherever she goes. |

Dessert, Coffee & Speaker's Night |
The April 10th, 2007 Coffee, Dessert and Speaker's Night was a resounding success. Everyone enjoyed the fabulous desserts and Ashanti Coffee. I have had numerous comments on how interesting David Wilding-Davies presentation on the growing and roasting of coffee beans was and that he is also an Equestrian Olympian was an added bonus. Silvia Reugger's talk blew everyone away. Anyone who has ever thought about quitting on themselves should hear her speak. One strong message she got through was that in a one-on-one fight between a tiger and a lion the tiger will always win. But in a fight between two groups of these animals the lions always win because they know how to operate as a team. Imagine what a group of tigers could do if they operated as a team! |

Silvia Ruegger, Olympic Marathon Runner |
In 1984, Silvia's dream was realized and her goal achieved when she represented Canada in the historic, first ever Olympic Women's Marathon at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Silvia finished 8th, while setting a new Canadian record.
The same audacious hope that fuelled Silvia's Olympic dream, fuels the dream she has to see the Running and Reading Clubs become a door of hope for many Canadian children living in poverty. |
